Antenatal Shared Care

Antenatal care is recommended to prevent potential problems during pregnancy. Your antenatal care doctor checks the health of the woman and baby to determine if extra care is needed. Antenatal care can include screening for congenital conditions and obstetric ultrasounds when needed. Your antenatal care doctor is also there to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

What is Antenatal Shared Care?

Multiple health professionals can be involved in pregnancy care – this is called antenatal shared care. Often, antenatal shared care is between a trained GP and a hospital. Antenatal shared care gives women flexibility and more continuous care as it allows them to speak to an antenatal GP close by.

Which GP's Can Provide Antenatal Shared Care?

Your pregnancy can be managed at Your Health Griffith by several of our GPs who provide shared Antenatal care such as Dr Gayathri Kosaka. This service is available if you are attending the Pregnancy Care Clinic at Griffith Base Hospital or a private obstetrician. This allows you to see your own GP for many of your routine antenatal visits. Your GP will arrange all necessary blood tests, ultrasounds, hospital visits etc during this time and communicate this information to your midwife and/or specialist obstetrician.
