Pre-Employment & License Medicals
Pre-Employment Medicals
For some jobs, a medical exam is necessary to before commencing. This is called a pre-employment assessment, or pre-employment medical.
Pre-employment medicals are designed so your employer knows you can safely perform the duties of the job, and are often legal requirements. Not everybody needs to do a pre-employment medicals, and your employer will let you know if you do.
What do they test in a Pre-Employment Medical?
Each assessment is different depending on the type of job you’re applying for, for example mining, heavy vehicle driving, and Category 3 Railway Safety medicals to name a few. The pre-employment checks are tailored according to the job. They usually start with a questionnaire about your medical history, and then a physical exam, which may include :
-
Functional assessment (including grip strength)
-
Musculoskeletal assessment
-
Audiometry
-
Spirometry (*depends on current COVID guidelines)
-
Vision test
-
ECG
-
Urinalysis
-
Drug & alcohol screen – urine, blood test, or chain of custody drug test
Your Health Griffith has on-site facilities to complete these pre-employment checks. Your employer will have to arrange the pre-employment check for you.
